An Introduction to Lonely Planet Guides

By

If you find traveling a rejuvenating experience, you don’t have to strain your budget to stay young and kicking. It’s quite a lovely planet we have, and Lonely Planet guides will show you the best treats, eats and retreats which ‘sanitary’ luxury arrangements overlook.

Wandering from one distant place to another allows you to experience the diversity of the world’s cultures, and these world-renowned guides have been showing tourists the best itineraries since its founders went on a life-changing honeymoon, spending borrowed money and savings on a travel that crossed two continents and an ocean.

Lonely Planet Publications is one of the world’s largest travel guidebook publishers, founded by Tony and Maureen Wheeler, who cashed in on their wanderlust. Tony came up with the company name, having misheard the phrase ‘lovely planet’ in Joe Cocker and Leon Russell’s song, ‘Space Captain.’

BBC Worldwide acquired a 75-percent share in Lonely Planet in 2007, pledging to uphold Lonely Planet’s commitment to ‘independent travel, trustworthy advice and editorial independence.’

The company now caters to different genres of communication (book publishing, television production, podcasting, and the newly introduced presence in the Internet) to maximize the number of the traveling enthusiasts. The Thorn Thee, the company’s online community, was upgraded just last year, and the company is now introducing products for iPhone users.

About 500 Lonely Planet guides are published annually. Hardbacks are available at bookstores worldwide or you can or you order online from the company’s website. Better yet, try the audio book versions.

You can check any online bookstore for these audio books. The Talking Book Store in particular has a wide collection of Lonely Planet guides to any continent.

Lonely Planet Europe, for example, has 36 books about this fascinating, historic continent. They give you all the insider tips you’ll need to, as the company website puts it, ‘languish in Luxembourg, soak up sangria in Spain and carouse in Cannes, all without having to sell a kidney.’

These guide books shows you how to go further, stay longer, and treat yourself to the occasional splurge. Seize the day and travel with confidence.

For those who are about to go off for a summer trip to the Bahamas, you might want to take with you Lonely Planet Guides. Go to this site for your own copy: Lonely Planet Guides [http://blog.talking-book-store.com/store]

There are many audio books that you can choose from. Check this site for your old-time favorites now in audio: Audio Books [http://blog.talking-book-store.com]
